A tune-up may be necesary if the car has a misfire or is running rough or using excessive amounts of fuel. These can be a little more difficult to diagnose than just throwing parts at your car and hoping this will fix the problem like some mechanics do! What we would do is:

isolate the issue first... eg

  • Is it cutting out, or just heavier on fuel than before?
  • Is the car hard to start or running on when you switch it off?
  • Is it performing like the car should do?

Once we know what the main concern is, we can narrow it down to a remedy. Sometimes this may involve plugging a laptop into the car's computer to diagnose a specific fault. Other times it may be a simple case of replacing the spark plugs if they are worn out. Each problem is different, but we strive to solve them in the quickest and most thorough way we can.
